What got you into skateboarding?
My uncle and his friend were into it skating. And then me and my brother both picked it up.
Does your brother still skate?
I don’t think he does but his son skates.
Do you still find the same enjoyment skating as you did when you were younger?
Yeah. The funniest thing is, knee boarding is super fun. I mean even though there’s no knee boarders anymore. like in the 70’S that was a type of category. Like knee boarders. So sometimes I’ll jam on my knees and that shits fun. It might look retarded but its fun. I tried to do a wall ride knee boarding. On a slanted wall, I tried to pop up and get a quick wall ride on my knees. And then I was thinking it would be sick to do a coffin wallride. You know what a coffin is? Laying down. Yeah I still get the same excitement and the same enjoyment. It’s kind of weird. sometimes I’ll have off days were I just think skateboarding is stupid. Everybody has on and off days. Sometimes I have off days were I’m like what the hell am I doing. Especially when the younger kids are doing like incredible. You know kick flip shuv it backside 5.0 front side shuv it out. That’s a combo. You know what I mean. That’s a heavy duty combo. I don’t think I could do that now. I mean maybe if I practiced and really wanted to do it, I could do it but that stuff will make you feel like why the hell am I skateboarding.

What motivates you to still get out and skateboard?
Transportation is probably #1. and then other than transportation. Just the basic ollie is fun. When you pop it feels so good. Skateboarding is super trendy but the funny thing is to go out with your board and rather than skating you just carry your board as if it were a sword. It feels good. It makes it feel like fuck. Ill swing this board so hard. Walk with your board and don’t skate. It’s almost like a control mechanism. like you want to jump on it to roll but to be able to control yourself and not skate. That’s a type of discipline. I think a lot of times skateboarding, the core of its development is self discipline since there’s no schools. I mean people are part of schools like the bowl era, the freestyle era, the high jumping era, long jumping era, the slalom era. Like those are schools. After 79 and the early 80’s it became a free for all. There were no schools. It was all about self discipline, self taught, self trained. There wasn’t so much school where someone you skated with said to do it like this or do it like that.
Do you think skating nowadays is the same as it ways in the 80’s?
Well you have schools now of skaters that skate certain ways you know. Skaters that pop up to high things and do tricks. You got skaters that go bonsai, you know super big like Ernie Torres. He fly’s down big shit and then you got other people that can pop on the mad high shit. Like think about Stevie Williams. He could switch flip 5.0 on something that I probably couldn’t front side 5.0 on. And you got skaters like Daewon who can do almost everything.

Who are some people you like to watch skate?
Paul Rodriguez, I like to watch him. He’s real good. In this footage he does a switch ollie across this gap to switch kay grind. That shit looks pretty gnarly to me dude. That’s just one maneuver. I don’t see a lot of footage of him. The names i've been hearing about are David Gonzales, from Columbia . There’s Rob Gonzales, he’s good, anyone with the name Gonzales, I like the way they skate. Nah. there’s other skaters I like. There’s Rodrigo TX . I like Javier Saramento. He’s super controlled like a swordsman. You know Tom Penny. Quim is gnarly, he does big fucking ollies. I like the old schoolers, the new schoolers, I like all of them. Cards, John Cardiel. I like the pool dogs. Mad dog and all those guys, there insane too. I don’t think it should just be limited to just “well I’m mostly a ledge skater”. That’s cool but you should just look at the aspects and just appreciate the others. It would be funny to be into high tech street skating but at the same time your favorite thing to watch is all bowl riders. You know what I mean? Imagine if those pool dogs all they did was watch the high tech tricks. It’s funny for me and making artwork. My artwork is real simple and kind of child like or stupid. But all my favorite artists are all the masters. Which is the exact opposite of what I do.

What motivates you to paint?
Boredom. So instead of doing something stupid I can do artwork. Trying to keep busy .you know evil will find work for idle hands. So I try to keep staying busy.
What do you want to say to the skate world?
No wakeboarding, no snowboarding, no rollerblading, no street climbing, no gang banging, no pop locking, no break dancing, no architecture, no handyman work, no artwork, no filling out forms, no voting, no waiting in lines, no Coca Cola, no Pepsi, no 7up, no ginger ale, no vita drinks, just pure Redbull.

here is a google maps pic of a place that used to be a service station. you can see one of the signs i cut down. when i found this spot driving aimlessly, it was just an abandoned lot with no buildings and only had the signs still intact.
here is a pic of the other sign i found and chopped down. none of these buildings were here....its a farce.....
